Office of the Bursar


General Statement and Information

Welcome to the Office of the Bursar. The primary mission of the Bursar’s Office is to provide quality customer service to our students, faculty, staff, and other constituents, with a welcoming smile. While we strive to maintain compliance with federal, state, and accrediting agencies, it is still the University’s goal to facilitate servicing all of our customers effectively and efficiently.

 

The Office of the Bursar serves students by offering efficient processes to view and manage the payment of tuition, fees, and room and board charges, as applicable. The Office works closely with Admissions and Enrollment Management, Registrar, Housing, and Financial Aid Services to provide means for students to properly enroll in the University, become eligible to attend classes, and to access applicable University services.

 

Students who anticipate receiving financial aid should be sure to communicate with the Financial Aid Office and complete all required paperwork well in advance of the planned enrollment period. If your financial aid does not cover all of your charges, students are required to pay any remaining balance, via the following methods:

 

  • Debit/credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa) on-line through Tiger Web at https://www.tuskegee.edu/programs-courses/bursar
  • Bank wire: Contact the Office of the Bursar for instructions.
  • Personal check, cashier’s check, or money order (A personal check must clear our check clearing system before it is accepted as payment toward the student’s tuition and/or fees). Payments must be made payable to Tuskegee University.
  • Payment Plan: A payment plan requires an enrollment fee of $65 per semester, plus the first payment.  The University has engaged a payment plan servicer, Nelnet, to manage payment plans on its behalf. The student or parent/guardian can enroll on-line at  https://tuskegee.afford.com/.

Monthly payment plan are for balances of $6,000 or less only.

Fall and spring semesters payments can be spread over four to five months. It is important that you sign up for the payment plan option at the beginning of the enrollment period to optimize the number of payments available.

Summer semester payments can be spread over two to three months. It is important that you sign up for the payment plan option at the beginning of the summer enrollment period to optimize the number of payments available.

 

All students must meet their financial responsibilities promptly or make an approved arrangement for payment(s). Students not making their required payments by the deadline indicated in the academic calendar, will be charged a late registration fee of $300.  The last date to enroll, add classes, and make financial arrangements with the Bursar is identified in the academic calendar. After this date, a reinstate period for the semester is within seven days of being deleted, inclusive of a $100 reinstatement fee plus any outstanding financial obligations.

Veterans

Veterans and/or their dependents of the Armed Forces of the United States, who are eligible for benefits under Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) and Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 Veterans Benefits), will have their educational expenses paid to the University by the Veterans Administration.

These students may also receive monthly financial resources directly from the Veterans Administration for their living/housing expenses. Tuskegee University does not extend credit for living/housing expenses, nor make any advances for personal expenses to students. Students are advised to make adequate financial arrangements, prior to attending Tuskegee University, to pay for their living expenses as needed.

Select Fees and Charges

Admission Application Fee: This fee is required of each new student who applies for admission. The fee is not refundable. The amount of the fee is $25 for undergraduate students, and $35 for transfer, graduate, and international students.

 

Enrollment Fee: This fee is required to show the student’s commitment to attending Tuskegee University within the academic year the student has applied. The fee is due according to the deadline established by the Office of Admissions. The non-refundable fee is $200. Upon the student’s acceptance, the payment should be mailed the Office of the Bursar.

 

Room Reservation Fee: New and returning students are required to pay an annual room reservation fee to reserve housing accommodations for each academic year. The amount of the non-refundable fee is $200.

Refunds Resulting from Withdrawals

If a student withdraws during the semester, a portion of his/her fees may be refunded. The policy on refunds is located in the “Dropping, Adding, Changing Sections and Withdrawing from School”, located at: http://catalog.tuskegee.edu/content.php?catoid=6&navoid=315.

 

Students who are suspended or expelled for disciplinary reasons shall have no right to a refund of any portion of fees paid.

Students withdrawing must return their identification cards to the Office of the Registrar and University room key(s) and mail box keys to the appropriate issuing area.

Students should clear all unpaid charges on their accounts in order that they may officially withdraw in good financial standing. In the event a student has an unpaid indebtedness to the University, any refund due will be applied thereon, rather than returned to the student.

If fees were paid by Federal and/or other funds, any remaining amount due will be applied against such funds.

All refunds will be determined by the effective date established by the Registrar.

There will be no refund of fees for withdrawing after the 60% mark of the semester.

The University reserves the right to not provide a refund of tuition, fees, charges, or any other payments made to the University in the event the operation of the University is suspended at any time as a result of an act of God, strike, riot, disruption, or for any reasons beyond the control of the University.

Because of the variety of courses and activities offered at Tuskegee University and the differing financial requirements and various resources available for each student, it is not possible to suggest budgets which apply generally to all students. However, a student may estimate his/her financial requirements and explore their eligibility for financial aid by utilizing the Net Price Calculator, which is located at the following link https://npc.collegeboard.org/app/tuskegee?iframe=true.

 

The net price calculator is designed to give you an early indication of how much and what types of financial aid you might qualify for if you were a college freshman attending school full-time in the academic year indicated. It is a tool which we hope will give you a clear picture of options and opportunities so you can make more informed decisions about your college choices.

 

As you use the calculator, please remember:

This is not an application for admission or for financial aid.

The results will only be as reliable as the data you provide.

The net price calculator will only give you an estimate of your net price and financial aid eligibility. The Financial Aid Office must determine your financial aid award.

You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. The forms are available as early as October 1st of the year prior to your planned year of college enrollment.

 

Completing the calculator should take no more than 20 minutes of your time. Students will need to answer questions about their parents’ financial status. It may be helpful to have their recent tax forms or pay stubs, on hand before you begin.
